ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The United States escaped defeat with an own goal in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time to earn a 1-1 draw with Jamaica in a friendly on Tuesday night.

Cory Burke's own goal came from a corner kick on the U.S.'s left attacking side. The ball was sent into the box and bounced around before Burke accidentally knocked it into his own net.

The United States had been trailing 1-0 since the 30th second of the match, when Greg Leigh gave Jamaica the lead. The U.S. pushed for an equalizer throughout the match, but it wasn't until the dying seconds that they were able to find it.

The draw was a disappointing result for the U.S., who were playing their first match since the 2022 World Cup. The U.S. had hoped to use the match to build momentum for the upcoming CONCACAF Nations League.

Jamaica, meanwhile, will be pleased with the result. The Reggae Boyz were outplayed for much of the match, but they were able to hang on for a draw. The draw will give Jamaica confidence going into their next match, a friendly against Argentina on Saturday.
