First Alert Weather Day: Severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening

What to expect

The National Weather Service has issued a First Alert Weather Day for the region this afternoon and evening. Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop and produce damaging winds, hail, and heavy rain. The storms are expected to move through the area between 4 and 8 PM.

What to do

If you are in the path of the storms, please take the following precautions:

• Seek shelter in a sturdy building.
• Stay away from windows.
• If you are outside, seek shelter in a low-lying area.
• Do not drive through flooded areas.
• Be aware of the risk of lightning.
