Typhoon Khanun: Hundreds of Flights Canceled, Evacuations Ordered in Japan

Early Typhoon Hits Japan

A violent typhoon came close to Japan relatively early in the year, causing damage and disruption in Okinawa Prefecture. The typhoon, named Khanun, is the first to make landfall in Japan this year.

Typhoon Khanun brought heavy rain and strong winds to Okinawa, causing flooding and power outages. The storm also damaged buildings and roads.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said that Khanun is expected to weaken as it moves away from Japan. However, the agency warned that the storm could still bring heavy rain and strong winds to other parts of the country.

Hundreds of Flights Canceled, Evacuations Ordered

The typhoon has caused widespread disruption in Japan. Hundreds of flights have been canceled, and train services have been suspended in some areas.

The JMA has advised more than 600,000 households to evacuate their homes. Evacuation centers have been set up in schools and other public buildings.

The government has urged people to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.

How Will This Year's Typhoon Season Unfold?

It is still too early to say how this year's typhoon season will unfold. However, the JMA said that it is expecting a normal number of typhoons to hit Japan this year.

The JMA typically tracks about 25 typhoons each year. About 10 of these typhoons make landfall in Japan.

The JMA said that it is important for people to be prepared for typhoons.
