Aurora Borealis Ohio July 2023

Northern Lights Won't Be Visible in US Tonight

Sorry folks, but if you're hoping to catch a glimpse of the aurora borealis tonight, you're out of luck.

A new forecast from the National Weather Service shows that the northern lights will not be visible in the US tonight or tomorrow night.

The forecast is based on data from the OVATION Prime model, which predicts the intensity and location of the aurora borealis.

According to the forecast, the Kp index, which measures the strength of geomagnetic storms, will be low tonight and tomorrow night. A Kp index of 5 or higher is needed for the aurora borealis to be visible in the US.

So, if you're hoping to see the northern lights, you'll have to wait until another night. In the meantime, you can check out some of the amazing photos of the aurora borealis that have been taken in the past.
