AliExpress Russia Considers Initial Public Offering
IPO a Possible Step for Online Retailer
Company's Russian Business Fully Launched in October 2019
Online retailer AliExpress Russia announced on Wednesday that an initial public offering (IPO) is a possible step for the company.
AliExpress Russia is a joint venture owned by Mailru Group, USM International, and Alibaba Group. The company's local Russian business was fully launched in October 2019.
According to AliExpress Russia, the average daily audience of its mobile application and website reached 25.1 million users in March 2021. The company also reported that its gross merchandise volume (GMV) for the first quarter of 2021 increased by 73% year-over-year.
If AliExpress Russia goes public, it will be the first major Russian e-commerce company to do so. The IPO could raise billions of dollars and help AliExpress Russia expand its operations.
However, the company has not yet made a final decision on whether to proceed with an IPO. AliExpress Russia said it will continue to evaluate the market and its options.
