Barcelona legend Xavi Hernández has announced that he will be stepping down as coach of the club at the end of the season. The news was confirmed by the club on January 27, 2024.
Xavi returned to Barcelona as coach in 2021 after a successful spell in charge of Qatari club Al-Sadd. Under his leadership, the Blaugrana have won the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup, and are currently second in La Liga.
However, Barcelona have struggled in the UEFA Champions League this season, and were eliminated in the group stage after failing to win any of their six matches. This, coupled with a disappointing campaign in La Liga, led to speculation about Xavi's future at the club.
In a statement released by Barcelona, Xavi said: "I want to thank the club for the opportunity to coach this team. It has been an honour and a privilege, and I will cherish the memories forever."
Xavi's departure will come as a blow to Barcelona, but the club will be hoping to appoint a suitable replacement who can continue the club's tradition of attacking football.
